Australia study work visa

Australia increases post-study work visa duration. Aims to attract more international students!

A recent joint announcement from the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Clare O’Neil MP and the Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, shared an outline of the draft of the revised post-study work rights for select degrees, that also included increasing the time to stay in the country from:

  • Two years to four years for select bachelor’s degrees
  • Three years to five years for select master’s degrees
  • Four years to six years for select PhDs.

The announcement has been welcomed by the international student community as the students will now be able to stay longer for work after their studies in Australia.

In addition, the Government also assured ramping up its visa support services and announced an Australian $36.1 million investment in the field of visa processing and plan to source over 500 extra staff over one year.

It was not long back when Australia was the most favoured study destination amongst international students, after the USA before Canada pipped in with its immensely generous and student-friendly policies, especially the post-study work rights. With these reforms, Australia will want to win back its image as the favoured one as its struggling with a shortage of manpower across various industries.
